Post Subtitle: (and THANK HEAVENS the internet is here to document them all!)
Two videos I’m loooving right now. All tied up in one nice little theme! Covered in marshmallows. Tomorrow is Friday, and I’m feeling generous. BOOMSHAKALAKA.
First, John Stewart gives Apple a very serious talking-to over their handling of the recent iPhone debacle. And he references Logan’s Run, makes fun of product placement, proves himself a comedic genius. I almost spilled hot chocolate* all over me whilst rewatching it for editing this post. I kind of love this man more every time I watch a video of him. Look what you’ve done, Char!
Aaaand this second video is pure giggles. And they’re the kind of giggles of, “Wow, the next time I do something seriously embarrassing, I will remember this video. And I will count myself fortunate to be in the ranks of Jagger and Bowie.” Seriously, the faint of heart might wish to go no further…it’s THAT bad. I take no credit if your head implodes.
Happy Thursday! Happy Friday! Don’t say Ashley never did nothing for the peoples.
*WHAT UP PRODUCT PLACEMENT?! Full disclosure out of the way, seriously though, it is bomb.
Here it is, the reason I’ve been MIA. This semester I’m taking a Magazine Publishing class. The class is split into five groups, and each group develops a brand new magazine for Meredith, the publishing company the publishes Better Homes and Gardens, ReadyMade and Ladies’ Home Journal. Our group was charged with developing a new decorating magazine. We chose to create a magazine dedicated to decorating small spaces called Cozy home. We worked together to develop a mission statement, editorial philosophy, content, ad plan, circulation plan and web plan. After we developed the content, we worked with three fabulous designers from the Advanced Design class to make our idea a reality.
Tuesday we got the proof back from the printer, and I almost cried it was so surreal and beautiful to see it on magazine paper and saddle-stitched together. On Monday, all of the copies we ordered will be printed, and on Thursday we will present our prototype at Meredith’s offices in Des Moines.
I wish I could show you the actual magazine, but I can show you our blog, Facebook and Twitter pages, which for the time being are all active as if Cozy home was more than just a prototype. I encourage you to visit our sites, friend and follow us, browse, comment and interact with us. We would love to have you at our Cozy home.
Let’s play a game! It’s called, Let’s Brush Up on Our Collective Art History Knowledge! SOUNDS GRAND, RIGHT? I know you’re literally falling off your seat in anticipation. BUT SERIOUSLY it’s pretty awesome. Would I lie to you?
Here’s how it works: check out these bitchin wedding dresses by Carolina Herrera. And try to guess which famous artist inspired each gown. (Click the images for a larger pick-cha)
Also. I PROMISE that even if you would rate your art history knowledge as -3 (on a scale of 1-10), even you will have at least heard of two or three of these artists. And if you’re an art history buff, well then the sunflowers should be a dead giveaway…
Have any of you ever enjoyed those Sunday mornings at a hip brunch, lounging around drinking coffee and then casually strolling through downtown, just enjoying the day? I haven’t. Usually I’m in church, or if I skip church it’s because I’m bogged down in my house with homework. Yesterday, I skipped church, and I was bogged down with writing an article, but it was an article that had me driving and walking all over Columbia. I was able to observe these lazy Sundays, but my stress level wouldn’t let me partake. There seemed to be a peaceful aura around this Sunday mid-morning/afternoon crowd that is absent from the weekday, Friday night or Saturday afternoon crowd.
Couples walked hand-in-hand. Groups of friends slouched at their outdoor tables, enjoying good food and good company. People were walking their dogs, being seen downtown. And there was me, with my backpack slung over my shoulder and reporter’s notebook in hand, writing about people enjoying good food and good company in community gardens, trying desperately to make this story work. Watching all of those people enjoying their Sunday afternoons made me realize how much I’m missing right now being overwhelmed by end-of-the-semester homework.
Once this semester is over I am going to dig in the dirt of our community garden and finally do my fair share. I’m taking the pups on a long walk and finally getting down to business on training them better. I’m going to read that pile of books gathering dust on my nightstand. I will have my lazy Sunday, eating outside, reading in a hammock and enjoying my life!
If I could go back in time and see any concert…not gonna lie, it would probably be the rolling stones, sometime in the late sixties or early seventies. Maybe I’ve built it up in my head too much, but I feel like a concert of that magnitude would be pure magic. There’s something so magnetic about the young Jagger, who sounds even better in a live video than he does on a record.
And from an old british band to a new british band, here’s my other current musical obsession, Slow Club. They’re a less polished version of Mates of State, and a more folksy version of the Ting Tings:
I’ve spent the last week cycling between these two artists: and it’s interesting how music has changed in half a century. How many of us will remember the hundreds of thousands of songs we buy, stream, download, love, and leave every year? Will “oldies” of my generation even exist? Even if they do, what are the chances they would single out the music that I actually enjoy(ed)?
Oh, Rolling Stones. You were in the right place at the right time, to be immortalized forever. Would anyone have given you a second glance if you’d been around half a century later?
PS. Um, on less of an existentialist note, did you guys noticed that I used magnitude, magic, and magnetic in a single paragraph?? I can’t decide if I’m super happy or mildly embarrassed at my unintentional melancholic poetic waxing.
Our epic road trip of epicness was so much fun and so needed, but it all seems like a dream I never wanted to wake up from. I think that’s what happens when you have two 12-14 hour days of driving in between relaxing vacay and going back to the grind. bleh.
Thanks to everybody who commented and visited the shop! Our two randomly selected winners are….
Faith, who chose an Apricot Creme mix.
Alexa, who chose the sweet and spicy Orange Cranberry.
Congrats girls! Please email your shipping info to lindysdelights@gmail.com, and she’ll get those scone mixes sent to you in a jiffy. Enjoy, with a cup of tea, of course.
I’m so stoked to share a huge project in my life right now! I teased you guys with it back in this post, and finally get to do some real show and tell. (click on any of the photos for larger views)
Lindy’s Delights is a new shop on Etsy that specializes in scone mixes. The founder, Lindy, wanted a brand identity that was warm, friendly, and based in good eats. Together we developed the logo, the packaging, the photography, and all of the verbage for the site. It’s been quite the labor of love.
And, oh yeah, Lindy is my incredible cook of a mom! She’s been baking these scones for friends and family for years, and recently had the idea to share the mixes online. You guys know me — I love good food, but I missed out on the cooking gene. But these mixes are the easiest thing to whip up, and even I can make them come out as the best scones in the world. I swear on second breakfast and cross my heart, that is a completely unbiased statement.
And as you probably guessed from the post title, we are so excited to have TWO scone mixes to giveaway to two very lucky readers (seriously, can I enter?)!
Here’s how to get in the running:
1. Visit Lindy’s Delights on Etsy, and pick the mix that sounds the most delectable.
2. Comment on this post with the name of your fav scone mix.
3. The two randomly selected winners will each receive the mix listed in their comment. Wootuh!
You have until Friday at midnight PST to enter! We’ll announce the winners later that day.
Hello again, and I hope you all had a wonderful holiday! Char and I had a really fantastic weekend together, and with our men and families and lots of old friends it was quite the party! Incredibly wonderful and over far too fast.
This morning I stumbled upon quite the perfect day-after Easter project:
You know, just a little something to do with all those extra peeps lying around. And because we all need more sugar injected straight to the blood stream. Peepshi concept via Serious Eats.
